Vendor Love – Love at First Invite

Cathy - Love at first InviteWe chatted to Cathy Olson at Love at First Invite about her wonderful invitations.   Cathy is/was a professional graphic designer, one day a friend changed her life – asking her to design her wedding invitations.  Soon after that Love at First Invite was born – Thank goodness!

Cathy specializes in gathering the ideas you have in your mind and focusing them into a workable piece of art. She will take inspiration from each element of your vision and create something completely unique and completely you.

Cathy believes in keeping her stunning work fully accessible by remaining cost-effective and utilizing eco-friendly processes and materials.

Her work is adorable and we couldn’t wait to share with you. Every party needs an invite,  set the tone for your  bachelorette party or bridal shower with a custom creation from Love at First Invite.  Here’s a little more insight into the mind behind the art.

What’s your favorite product on your site?
Our custom invitations! We love getting inspiration from wedding day details and coming up with something completely unique!

What about your job still makes you smile?
Meeting with couples deep in love, and the smell of freshly printed or pressed paper.

What FireFly package would you pick for your bachelorette party? Model Pin up Photo shoot, love the empowerment of a beautiful Boudoir sesh!

Name 3 famous people you’d invite on your bachelorette party?
Not super into famous people, so I’d still have to say my Besties are all I’d want!

Which wedding are you: Beach, Mountain, Forest, or Countryside?
Our wedding was already beach, but if I could “do-over” it would be Countryside with all of it’s charm!

Finish this sentence: If I could give one piece of wedding advice it would be…
Resist the urge to send out your Wedding invitations too early. Giving your guests a later RSVP deadline gives your guests more time to decide. For the couple getting married, 4-5 months out may seem just around the corner – but to your guests, it may seem lightyears away, and consequently they may not know their schedules yet. Aim to send out your invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding, with the RSVP deadline 3-4 weeks before the big day. Your guests’ answers will be more accurate and they will love you for it!

What’s your most outrageous wedding memory?
Designing custom invitations for a bride in England. It was so fun to learn all about their country and culture. And our phone conversations were a blast!

Thanks Cathy

Vendor Love – Julianne Smith Wedding Garters

Meet Julianne from Julianne Smith Wedding Garters, after making a good friends garter for her wedding, she couldn’t find a ‘furry garter’ that the bride had requested.  That was when she realized she had found a niche.  Now Julianne has created  a collection of chic, modern wedding garters.

If you can’t find the perfect wedding garter to match your personality then Julianne specializes in designing a custom garter especially for you.  She can even hand embroider your wedding date, initials or a special saying to your stylish, custom designed wedding garter.  Julianne even has a green garter section, where they are made out of recycled plastic bottles.

Some think wedding garters are old hat, but Julianne is all about bringing the tradition back in style with her unique garters.  We think they are fabulous and hope that every bride or bridesmaid looking for a gift will check out Garter Girl.

Thanks Julianne.  Don’t forget if you book a package with FireFly then you will automatically get a discount when you purchase a garter from Juliane Smith.

What’s your most popular garter this wedding season?
The most popular wedding garters are custom designs that match the bride’s personality. Brides are looking for something unique that will express who they are and what their style is.

What about your job still makes you smile?
Pretty much everything!

What FireFly package would you pick for your bachelorette party?
Trapeze lessons for sure! I’m a scaredy cat, but it is always something I’ve wanted to do, so I’d need my girls around to give me support. So, this would be perfect!

Oh my gosh….I have no idea, the list would be endless!! I’m a people person, so I’d want everyone to come!

DIY – In Case of Emergency – Don’t pull hair

Wedding Emergency Kit

We know as MOH you have a lot of responsibilities, so we thought we’d ease your burden by listing out a great emergency kit that you can put together for the bride – she will love you for it.  These are hings that she might not have thought of or forgotten to bring on the day of the wedding like a sewing kit, mints, or fabric spot cleaner.  You can buy most of these “just in case”  items at the drug store, Target or Walmart.

Vendor Love – Elite British DJ

Mick, a fellow Brit, is a star when it comes to your wedding music.  He is San Diego’s Premier Disc Jockey and has performed at over 1000 weddings and parties.  He has an enormous music selection, quality sound equipment and a full lighting system.  And let’s not forget he has a fab British accent. Your wedding will suck with out Mick. It’s the truth.

Like a lot of people I can’t remember a lot of songs without having my memory jogged, cue the  Elite British DJ. Mick will put together a 20-25 second sample of 99 songs in each category to help you make your choices.  He’ll make sure you’re comfortable with all the songs so there’s no polka surprises on your special day. Everyone starts as a client but by the time you’ve said “I do”, you’ll be a close friend.

Mick’s other talent is marrying well, he caught the gorgeous Julie from The Best Wedding for You .

Did I mention the accent? Here’s what Mick had to say when we threw some hard hitting questions at him:

What are your favorite 3 songs to play at a wedding? and What 3 songs are most requested?

Favourite 3 on a personal level would be different, but favourite 3 based on consistent guest reaction would be Billie Jean – Michael Jackson, Twist & Shout – Beatles, Shook Me All Night Long – AC/DC

The favourite 3 songs I have played at weddings on a personal level would be ‘Town Called Malice – Jam’, ‘Spellbound – Siouxsie & The Banshees’ and ‘Nellie The Elephant – Toy Dolls’

the 3 most requested is tough, probably anything by Lady Ga Ga, Michael Jackson or Journey

What about your job still makes you smile?

Seeing people have a great time and knowing I am largely responsible for that , sounds corny but it never gets old

What FireFly package would you pick for your bachelor party? -

DJ Lessons, just kidding, absolutely Stripper Cruises (just don’t tell the wife)

Name 3 famous people you’d invite on your bachelor party? Why?

Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and Colin Farrell   I have always thought they would be genuine people behind the celebrity who would certainly not be boring to hang out with !!!

It’s the morning after the bachelor party, there is a tiger in your room, you can’t find the groom, what do you do?!!

Keep drinking and let someone else deal with it

What’s your most outrageous memory at a wedding?

I am writing a book ………..  here is one of my favourites in brief.  Ceremony takes 2 minutes, bridal party in t-shirts with tux/bridesmaids dress design.  Groom has the word ‘groom’ spray painted across his. bride has ‘bride’ on hers. first dance is the bride and groom mudding (look it up) in their individual trucks to a cassette tape of  friends in low places.  Dance floor is 2 pieces of ply board, curled at the edges.  Best man knocks a guest unconscious, police called out, arrest best man but don’t shut down party.  At the end of the wedding, the groom comes up and says to me ‘you’re English right, come with me you will love this …………  There was a cock fight……….  to this day I am trying to work out why he thought because I was English I would like that …… I didn’t !!!

Hilarious, thanks Mick

Men, Dresses, and Men in Dresses

This one is for all the fellas getting married out in blogland. We’ll let the video speak for itself:

The guys over at the Man Registry spend all day and night fighting for your liberation. They strive to find products and advice that will make the sales person at Bed, Bath, & Beyond blush.  So put down the registry gun before you scan one more matching tea cozy set. Now head over to The Man Registry and behold all the products that Al Bundy would want you to have. And while you’re there tell the Man Registry guys to lay off the dresses.

Here are some of our Man picks from their arsenal that might come in handy on a bachelor party:

The Tuxedo Shirt – We feel every man should wear one of these once in their lives.

Toro 51599 12 Amps Ultra 225 Electric Leaf Blower/Vac – Because you could do  - this –  with it.

Louisville Slugger – Because the only good defense is a good offense

If you like adrenaline and speed but aren’t quite sure if you want to throw yourself off a bridge, then an ATV trip is perfect for you.  Especially when you have a guide that will give you pointers and tips to keep you safe.  I love  adventure! From bungee jumping in Africa,  rafting down the Zambezi,  jumping out of a plane in New Zealand, abseiling off Table Mountain and moutain biking down the most dangerous road in Bolivia to trying an ATV trip here in the States – I was definitely not disappointed.

These bachelor and bachelorette packages have a positive grunt factor for the boys. But what I love about these packages for bachlorette parties is that on your ATV adventure, not only do you go to Mexico but you can end your tour with wine tasting or a fabulous spa treatment – hello…. can life get any better?

We’ve listed a few of our favorite bachelor and bachelorette party ATV Tours in either Mexico or San Diego:

For the Men: Bachelor Party ATV Packages

4x4x12oz – ATV Trip in San Diego followed by Beer Tasting

4x4xFork – ATV Half Day followed by 3 Course Dinner

For the Women: Bachelorette Party ATV Packages

Grape Adventures – ATV trip to Mexico with Wine Tasting.

4x4xFork – ATV Trip in San Diego followed by Dinner.

Happy Adventures,

Vendor Love – Mint Julep Social Events

We are excited to feature Michelle – thank you.

What’s your favorite trend for weddings at the moment?
I absolutely love the trend towards tapas-style receptions which allow for a much more progressive event with various flavors being introduced over the course of the event.

What FireFly package would you pick for your bachelorette party?
I would love to do the Model Pin Up Photo Shoot and who in their right mind could resist a Spa Day?

Name 3 famous people you’d invite on your bachelorette party? Why?
Mae West because she had a great sense of humor and would most likely be able to help with the Pin Up Photo Shoot; Priscilla Presley circa 1967 because she could tease a mean beehive!: and Christina Ricci because she just seems like a cool girl you would want to be friends with.

Mint Julep

What’s your most outrageous memory at a wedding?
I recently coordinated a wedding where the bride insisted on installing two stripper poles on the dance floor for the wedding reception (much to my chagrin!).  Definitely a memorable experience and one that I hope is not a budding trend.

Which wedding are you: Beach, Mountain, Forest, or Countryside?
I am most definitely a Forest wedding, possibly Countryside if I’m in the mood.  I love the idea of organic dark greens, branch elements, the air of whimsy, and the little details like acorns and mushrooms that could be incorporated into decor.

Mint Julep

Who would you rather deal with: The hungover Groom, Interfering Mother of the Bride or a Bridezilla? Absolutely the Hungover Groom!  It makes for a much more enjoyable planning process if the bride and MOB are pleasant, since you end up working closely with them for months.

Finish this sentence: If I could give one piece of wedding advice it would be…
to seriously consider hiring a coordinator!  How else can you reduce wedding stress and enjoy the planning process while knowing your most important day is in the hands of a professional?

Thanks Michelle.

Post Love: Kind words from Anna Post

We were recently mentioned on Anna Post’s blog. Anna is the author of “Emily Post’s Wedding Parties” and the great-great grandaughter of Emily Post. In her post about us she says:

I love the focus on quality time with your friends, not quality time in a bar you might not even remember later. (I live in fear of those little tiara’s brides are made to wear!) And for those of you outside their sunny California reach, the site offers great inspiration.

If you get a chance, stop by her blog and say hello. She has plenty of etiquette advice for weddings and other events.  You can view the original post here:

If you’re interested in her book you can find it here at Amazon:

Thanks Anna!!!
