Tips for Planning Your Bachelorette Party

We have put together a few tips and pointers when choosing your  perfect bachelorette party with FireFly Group Events in Orange County or San Diego.

The secret of a good event is to plan ahead! We know how busy you are along with the responsibilities you have for the wedding. We know how stressful it can be planning an event, along with it being time consuming, that’s why the professionals at FireFly are here to help organize an event everyone is talking about for years to come. Each vendor we work with is a professional at what they do, they will take special care of you on your event – they say leave it to the experts, so we do.

Here are a few pointers:

  • You need to sit down with the bride and plan out the guest list. Chocolate making might not be good for the bride’s diabetic mother.
  • Think about the number of people you want to invite, up to 20 is usually a good number, any more and things might be hard to control and get out of hand
  • grannylapdanceSet the tone of the night, is it just your closest that are coming or will Grandma and your mother-in-law be invited as well – I am sure you don’t want your new mother in-law seeing you a little tipsy having a lap dance from a Chippendale!
  • Plan your bachelorette event a couple of months time prior to the big night or weekend – this will give you enough time for everyone invited to plan ahead, it also means you will definitely get the activities you have chosen.
  • Choose something unique for your event, remember this is a one off event for you and your friends and family to spend quality time together, cherish those relationships. Don’t waste it by just going out for dinner, then getting drunk and end up not remembering the fabulous event – there is more to life, so live it!
  • It is always a hassle collecting everyone’s money, especially when you don’t know everyone that is invited. With FireFly, you wont have to worry about this, you already have enough things to do. Everyone invited will log on and pay for their own seat, it means you wont be out of pocket if people don’t show up.
  • Decide if you want the bachelorette party to have a theme, think about what costumes, props and accessories you might need.  For example a burlesque theme. (check out our blog post to find some interesting themes)

Bachelorette Party Idea – Scavenger Hunt & Wine Bar in Los Angeles

The best way to find a good time on your bachelorette party is with our  Scaventure! Once you’re done terrorizing the city of Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade on your scavenger hunt, you can head over to one of our favorite wine bars and unwind.  Over a glass of wine or 3, you can trade crazy scavenger hunt antics and relive the fun. Our Scaventure is perfect for your next birthday party, bridal shower, or bachelorette party in the Los Angeles area.

Not having your bachelorette party in Los Angeles? No problem, let us know where you’d like to host the hunt and we’ll help you make it happen. We’ve hosted parties in San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County, New Orleans and are adding more cities all the time.

What is a Scaventure?

Your Scaventure will be a series of challenges, findable objects, clues, trivia, and tasks that you will complete for big points. You’ll be racing the clock and the other teams to get 1st place. To win you’ll have to out think, outwit, out perform, and out create the other teams. It’s the perfect way to spend some time with the bride on her special weekend.

One of our group challenges... can you do it?

What kind of challenges are there?

We’ve packed your Scaventure with more than just challenges. You’ll have list of photos to take, items to find, and some required group challenges.  One example of a photo challenge is convincing a cute guy to remove his shirt for a group photo! In our Found items section we might ask you to bring back “Something hot”. We leave the interpretation of “hot” to you. It could be a packet of hot sauce or a picture of J-Lo. The group challenges are at assigned times and you’ll be competing as a team for big bonus points.  There is something for everyone in this scavenger hunt. We customize it to the bride because she’s the reason you’re all running around the city. =)

How many people do we need for the scavenger hunt?

The more the merrier! We can do it with as little as 6 people(price may vary) and as many as 50 or more. This is a popular event with joint bachelor parties and bachelorette parties.

What do we get at the wine bar?

A sophisticated good time with great drinks and atmosphere. You’ll have a private area just for your group in our favorite wine bar. In addition to great vintages we’ll make sure you’re well stocked with munchies. You’ll have cheese & fruit plates, hummus, bruschetta, and artisan pizzas to keep you going.

Bachelor Party Idea – Dodgeball – Orange County

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” Those words have pushed dodgeball players to reach for new heights for centuries. No heights could be greater than our newest bachelor party offering – dodgeball on a trampoline. That’s right! Someone out there created the awesomeness that is a private dodgeball court with wall to wall trampolines AND walls for trampolines. Only anti-gravity dodgeball could eclipse this playground paramour(talks have begun with NASA stay tuned). So forget that round of golf or the kayaking trip or tea party or even the manicures you had planned… instead we invite you to regress to the 4th grade.  Pull your socks up with us, don the 80s headband and grab some balls cause it’s hurtin’ time.

Interested in dodging some balls for your next bachelor party, birthday party, or Man Cave field trip? Check out our Duckin’ & Drivin’ package in the Orange County area. It combines a mini-grand prix on a high performance go-kart track and your own private dodgeball. It’s worth noting that you won’t be dodging and driving at the same time…. yes, people ask.

Dodgeball also makes for a great joint jack & jill party. You can go battle of the sexes or the ultimate couple throwdown.

Not in Orange County?? Not a problem! We also offer dodgeball packages in the following cities: Houston, Chicago, Sacramento, Santa Clara, Seattle, Spokane, Los Angeles, Portland, and Woodland Hills. Drop us a line for more information about dodging in those cities at events@fireflygroupevents.com

Holly Steen – Cakes & Kisses – Los Angeles Wedding Photographer

What is your favorite wedding photography trend at the moment?
My favorite wedding photography trend at the moment is colored bridal shoes. I am a huge fan of brides that think outside the box and buy shoes that match their lifestyle, rather than just their wedding dress. It is even better when the bride wears them for the engagement photos or tells me that she wore them during bachelorette party and broke the shoes in… that means no limping around the reception because of hurt feet.
What are the advantages of having your engagement shots taken by your wedding photographer?
The advantage of having engagement photos with your wedding photographer is simple… you get to know what it is like to be in front of the camera. It builds a trust and relationship that is different than sitting and chatting in a showroom. Although I try not to use all my jokes during the engagement, it is a great way for me to spend time with the couple and make them laugh. I think that the more time the couple spends together the better, and the more food/drinks the couple buys the photographer, the better the photo shoot.
What FireFly package would you pick for your bachelorette party?
The FireFly Events package that I will pick for my bachelorette party is pretty much a laundry list… I have different kinds of friends so I would do a few different to suit each of the groups. Recording Studio- Idol Wannabe, for my overly musically talented friends to sing at the top of our lungs “Lean on Me”, my anthem for 7th grade. Girlfriend Getaway – Sex in the City Weekend, for me and my closest craziest girls. The kind of “All for one and one for all” girls that you have tons of fun with but can’t share any of the stories because they would get us all in trouble. Plus, the Charlies Angel, Self Defense, with my girls and teach them some awesome ways to kick butt in and out of the bedroom.
Name 3 famous people you’d invite on your bachelorette party? Why?
Three famous people I would invite to my bachelorette party would first invite Jewel, the musician, to make my recording studio party to the next level and get us a Grammy. Second, comedian, Ellen DeGeneres, because she makes me laugh so hard, and I think it would be fun, because she probably has some pretty crazy stories. Third, mixed martial artist, Gina Carano, to give us some tips on how to be a knock out and give killer muay thai kicks!
What’s your most outrageous wedding memory, either one you have worked at or one you have been a guest?
So many outragerous wedding memories when I was a second shooter in my first few years of wedding. One of my favorites was for the daughter of the late Pat Morita (the infamous Mr. Miyagi) at a Buddist temple in Hollywood. It was amazing and exclusive, while being unique and special. During the toasting, the brides’ sister stood up and said, “Bonzai” and to have the whole room chime in with “Bonzai” even louder.  This chant carried on through the night was especially memberable when at the end of the first dance the guests all had score cards like “Dances with the Stars.” They received a perfect score.
Which wedding are you: Beach, Mountain, Forest, or Countryside?
I am a beach wedding girl. Some of my favorite beach weddings had lounging couches, bon fires, and perfect breeze that made the day seem so magical. I really think there is a mood that is captured in a beach wedding that is missed in a ballroom, or in a exclusive golf club.
If you could give one piece of wedding advice to a couple, what would that be………..?
Wedding advice is follow what you want. You will regret having the wedding your best friend, mom wanted. Have the wedding that you want, so you can look back at your wedding photos and remember that every moment that was captured was part of your day. This is more marriage advice, but be sure to marry someone that you enjoy listening to and talking to. They will be the one person you can depend on for an opinion, advice, or a shoulder to cry on.

Holly from Cakes & Kisses, lives & breathes photography and it shows. She cries at every wedding, her heart is always in the right place. She cares and feels the joy of each couple. Holly will capture your most cherishible moments, creating art pieces and documenting your day.

If she’s not documenting marital bliss, you’ll find her at a Dodgers games or getting her new studio space ready for the wedding season.  - go Holly.

Holly has become a lovely friend and she will soon become yours, she will make you feel at ease the moment you meet her.

Orange County Bachelor & Bachelorette Party Destination

theocOrange County is known for sun, surf, and for birthing Lauren Conrad’s career on everybody’s favorite train wreck  Laguna Hills.  When you strip away the sun baked deb-mutants Orange County reveals some of Southern California’s famed “California Dreaming”. It’s got the shopping, the beaches, and plenty of places to feast.  In a single day you could take a boat around the harbor, make candles, decorate cupcakes, fly an F16(virtually), pole dance, deep sea fish, zipline, paintball, and so much more. We don’t advise doing all of that in one day but it’s theoretically possible. Theoretically.

Our Orange County locations satisfy our bachelor party criteria easily:

  • Transportation - is it easy to get around?
  • Proximity – Is everything ie. bars, clubs, hotels, etc close to each other? Are there some cool daytime excursions close to the area for the bachelorette party?
  • Saturation - Does the area have a strong selection of clubs, restaurants, bars, etc?
  • Safety – Would a group feel comfortable wandering around the streets at 2 in the morning?
  • Lodging – What’s the hotel or vacation rental situation?

In Orange County a Bachelor Party can range from fishing to cooking like a man or take advantage of the great surfing.  For the Bachelorette Party you can take great boudoir shots, take a bike ride or go kayaking.  We have lots of great packages to suit all your needs.

Orange County Bachelor Party Packages:

  • Maximum Overdrive – If  you are an adrenaline junky then this package is for you, take your chance in a Fighter Jet Simulator, then burn some rubber on a race track.
  • Tarzan – 60ft above the ground, test your puzzle solving skills and zip back down to earth on our high ropes course
  • Fish & Fare – Perfect location to catch dinner for the evening.

Orange County Bachelorette Party Packages:

  • Wicks & Wine – Design and Make your own candle, then sample a few wines
  • Cruising Temptations – Cook a scrumptious meal from your choice of menus, then take out an electric boat round the harbor and crack open the champagne
  • Cheers – Join your favorite friends for a mimosa cruise round the harbor – bliss

Bachelor Party – Deep Sea Fishing

I love fish and chips smothered in vinegar and served up in a newspaper….. agh I miss a good ole chippie!  In fact, I love most seafood.  I LOVED shark fishing in South Africa and Piranha fishing in Bolivia. However, I haven’t made it deep sea fishing yet. What?! I know, I know, it’s on my list. =) Luckily for you Best Main and Maids of Honor we have some friends that were able to make some solid recommendations for California fishing.

You can either go out on a private boat or on an open boat that accommodates up to 70 people.  The trips range from half days, to overnight trips.  It’s a great way to bond and literally catch a bite to eat.  Some boats, for a small charge, will even clean the fish for you (trust me its worth it, your fiance will appreciate it). Either choice will make for a bachelor or bachelorette party to remember. We offer fishing party packages in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and San Francisco.

Check out our different ‘Open Boat’ packages:

  • Fish Fry – 3 Course Dinner & Half Day Open Boat Fishing
  • Fishy Pints – Beer Tasting & Half Day Open Boat Fishing
  • Fish & Fare – Half Day Open Party Boat Fishing
  • School Party – Half Day Open Party Boat Fishing & Party Bus

You can also ‘Charter’ your own boat, check out the following packages:

Bridal Shows

San Diego – The Convention Center

Aaaahhhh….lovely San Diego, what a great place to have a booth at a bridal show.  We were welcomed by a number of fabulous brides-to-be and Maid of Honors, even a few grooms who were being dragged round the event. Luckily for the grooms this show had some free samples of champagne to dull the pain. =)

Here’s Nadine with our new booth concept:

Our new bridal "shower" booth for bridal shows(say that 3 times fast).

Our new bridal "shower" booth for bridal shows(say that 3 times fast).

We came up with the idea of creating a shower (for bridal showers)!!!  James did a fab job of creating the masterpiece (not without help).

As always, we had wonderful neighbors, some of whom we will feature in our future  blog posts.

Orange County – Queen Mary

Ahoy Mateys…. It be time for an accounting of our recent show…. Ahem… We had a great time at the Queen Mary Bridal show. Amidst the art deco décor, the ocean, and sailors we managed to meet lots of wonderful brides and avoided having the theme from The Love Boat stuck in our heads. It was a tighter fit at this show, but we didn’t mind because once again our neighbors were fabulous. The crew from Silver Line Productions kept trying to steal our bachelorette sash and we tried to steal their candy. By the end of the show we were sugared up and Victor from SilverLine had the sash.

We’re looking forward to our next show when our booth will include a blow up doll(stay tuned for details)!!

Nadine and Victor from Silverline Productions after he finally got our sash!
